Unleashing Power: Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 Debuts as the Most Powerful Electric Vehicle

Ford has introduced its latest creation in the form of an all-electric Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800, aimed at shattering records set by its predecessor, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400. Cast your mind back to April 2020, when society was forced into lockdown and Ford was taking the electric drag-racing world by storm with the Cobra Jet 1400, boasting a hearty 1,400 horsepower, propelling the vehicle to a remarkable 8.128-second ET at 171.97 mph, becoming the quickest EV to cover a quarter-mile. Not content with this success, Ford recently announced the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800, boasting an astonishing 1,800 horsepower, and seeking to assert dominance over its predecessor, by delivering a superior performance and stealing the limelight. It is a truly formidable machine, designed to intimidate and impress.

The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, a true all-electric action hero, has undergone some upgrades, including a new and lighter battery pack developed in collaboration between MLe and Ford Performance, as well as a new Liberty transmission and an MLe-tweaked rear-end, combined with larger Mickey Thompson drag slicks. These modifications add a new level of "rad" to the already impressive vehicle. However, the inverters and motors remain unchanged from the previous model.

Ford asserts that the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 is now "hundreds of pounds lighter" than its predecessor. With the added power boost, it is expected to achieve an impressive time of under 7 seconds, possibly even lower. The vehicle's impressive capabilities will be put to the test later this year, as Pat McCue, MLe Racecars' drag racing expert, will take the wheel at an NHRA event to demonstrate the car's impressive power and speed.

Ford's Electric Mustang Sets Sights on Record-Breaking Performance this Season

Ford's performance team led the development of upgrades to the all-electric Mustang Super Cobra 1800, including enhancements to the chassis, powertrain, and control systems. The vehicle's name is a tribute to Ford's performance history, with the first "Super Cobra Jet" introduced in the 1969 model year Mustang as an upgrade to the standard Cobra Jet package. The Super Cobra Jet 1800 utilizes the same four PN-250-DZR inverters and two double-stacked DS-250-115 motor pairings as the Cobra Jet 1400, but with a new Liberty transmission and a lighter battery system developed by Ford Performance and MLe Racecars.

The design team was able to reduce the weight of the electric Mustang by hundreds of pounds while increasing its horsepower to 1,800, which is why it is called the Super Cobra Jet 1800. Ford Performance Motorsports global director Mark Rushbrook discussed the improvements and the track potential of the new vehicle. Ford plans to break the full-bodied electric quarter-mile record set by its Cobra Jet 1400 predecessor at an NHRA event later this season. The performance team also aims to set world records for the fastest electric vehicle 0-60 mph and fastest two-wheel drive electric vehicle 0-60 mph.
